Educate a girl, empower a woman, inspire a community, change lives!

On average over the past five years, we have sponsored 14 girls per year in Jamaica.

The following story is from one of our beneficiaries, highlighting her ambition and the obstacles that prevented her from completing secondary school before she was sponsored.

To protect her identity, the name of the girl has been changed.

Denise’s Story

“I believe that hard work and consistency will lead to success. I am a member of the art council and student council, therefore helping in the development of student welfare”

Denise is 16 and boards away from home. She lives with her mother (a nurse), father (a former sugar cane farmer until he lost his sight) and three younger siblings. Her mother was unable to cover Denise’s school expenses, in addition to those of the whole family, until the CGEF were able to sponsor her.

Denise is a responsible, respectful student who has attained high academic standards and has been awarded two certificates of excellence for her academic performance. She is also a member of the Environmental Club and has completed twenty-three hours of community service she starting high school.

“As an ambitious student and once who is confident in her abilities, I see myself being a successful women in the future. With my interest in the business world, I would like to be an auditor or accountant; and later, an entrepreneur”
