Educate a girl, empower a woman, inspire a community, change lives!

On average over the past five years, we have sponsored 15 girls per year in Sierra Leone.

The following story is from one of our beneficiaries, highlighting her ambition and the obstacles that prevented her from completing secondary school before she was sponsored.

To protect her identity, the name of the girl has been changed.

Kadie’s Story

“When I come home in the evening, there is no light unless I use the street light outside to study. We do not have any electricity in our home”

Kadie is 16 years old and recently moved up to senior secondary school. She is an orphan, having lost her mother from a heart attack and her father when she was five years old. She currently lives with her Aunty who has five other children of her own. Her only income is from stone mining, which she breaks by hand to sell to contractors. Her aunt is getting very old and Kadie often helps her in the quarry after school, leaving her less time to study. CGEF sponsorship has not only alleviated the financial burden from her aunt, but has allowed her to spend more time studying instead of having to work in the quarry.

“I work very hard with my academic work and usually find myself in the top five students in class. My dream is to become a medical doctor so that I can save lives”
