On average over the past five years, we have sponsored 4 girls per year in Grenada.

The following story is from one of our beneficiaries, highlighting her ambition and the obstacles that prevented her from completing secondary school before she was sponsored.

Alexa’s Story

“I am all for educating girls in my community/country because it can assist in opening doors that seem otherwise impossible and therefore would not be a victim of teenage pregnancy, that is so rampant in my country”.

Alexa and her brother live with their father who is the sole breadwinner for the family. Her brother has sickle cell and has been more ill than usual. This placed a huge financial strain on her father and a mental strain on Alexa who was worried her brother would not be able to pull through. Her teachers also had an industrial strike, interrupting her daily routine when the school was closed.

She is a bright student with a keen interest in gymnastic and a dream of opening her own gymnasium in the future.

“I am most proud that in my first term I was in 6th position, but at the end of the school year was able to finish in 4th position. I know with hard work, dedication and assistance I can reach the top. In future, I will assist other girls in my community by tutoring them in subject areas where they are weak. For those interested in being gymnasts, but are struggling financially, I will give free lessons at least twice per week to grant them the opportunity to achieve their dreams”.
