Educate a girl, empower a woman, inspire a community, change lives!

On average over the past five years, we have sponsored 2 girls per year in Namibia.

The following story is from one of our beneficiaries, highlighting her ambition and the obstacles that prevented her from completing secondary school before she was sponsored.

To protect her identity, the name of the girl has been changed.

Magano’s Story

“I sometimes find it difficult to stand up and ask for money because I know my family is large and the salary of my parents is not enough”

Magano is intelligent and determined young lady. In her first year of high school, Magano was diagnosed with Tuberculosis. She missed six weeks of school prior to being admitted to the hospital (which is 30km away from her hometown) for a further six months. However, her positive attitude and extra-tuition meant that she was able to come 6th out of 160 students once she returned to school. She lives with her parents and six siblings who struggle to afford to educate all of their children. Sponsorship has meant Magano can continue on her path to become a tuberculosis specialist.

“I would like to be a Tuberculosis specialist as I was a TB patient and would not wish that on someone else. The fact that I had to take fifteen tablets a day and receive an injection makes me want to make life easier for future TB patients. For instance creating one tablet that contains the benefits of the fifteen I had to take. I look forward to this career with my whole heart even though I know it’s not going to be easy".
